TN-S Earthing System Explained

TN-S is easiest to recognise conceptually by keeping the neutral and protective-earth functions separate rather than combining them into a PEN conductor in the supply path shown.

Separate conductors

The neutral carries normal return current while the protective-earth path exists for protective purposes. The two functions are shown separately in the VoltMate model.

Fault-return concept

A line-to-exposed-metal fault should have a protective return path toward the source so the protective arrangement can operate under the design conditions.

Learning boundary

The simplified model teaches the system concept. It is not a substitute for identifying the actual distributor arrangement or verifying conductor suitability on site.
